A FEW THINGS TO KNOW · OCTOBER 18, 2026

Small print.
Clear promises.

The rules

Name Not Taken is a free experimental browser game. You may claim up to three names per anonymous owner per UTC day. Names contain 3–24 English letters, ignoring case. Claims are first come, first served.

A claim cannot be changed, cancelled, released or transferred. “Forever” means the name will not be reassigned while this service continues. It does not promise that this service will operate indefinitely, and it grants no trademark, domain name or other legal rights.

Do not use bots, evade limits, impersonate the operator or register names promoting hatred or abuse. We may hide names or pause claims to protect the registry. A hidden name remains unavailable. Applicable legal removal requirements take precedence.

Your recovery key is your credential. Keep it private and safe. We cannot recover a lost key. Anyone who has it can access your names. The service may change, become unavailable or close; do not rely on it for business or identity verification.

This is a small independent experiment run by No Reason Studio. It is not affiliated with any social network, trademark office or domain registry. Names claimed here exist only in this registry.

Privacy

We store an anonymous owner ID, a one-way hash of your recovery key, claim records and session hashes. An HttpOnly cookie remembers your owner session for 30 days. A separate first-party, HttpOnly browser cookie lasts up to one year to avoid counting the same browser/name check twice. We store only its hash with checked names, their first-check time and whether they were already taken. Public statistics contain counts, never browser identifiers. Clearing cookies or using another browser can count separately; these are browser counts, not verified people. We do not require your name, email or an X account.

Claim names, claim numbers and dates are public. Recovery keys and internal owner IDs are never included in public claim responses. Rate limiting uses time-bucketed hashes of network identifiers, retained briefly. Reports and moderation actions are stored privately.

Cloudflare provides hosting and, when enabled, human verification. Sharing on X opens X’s own posting page; posting is your choice and X’s privacy policy applies. X account connection is disabled in this version.

We do not use advertising trackers. We use first-party, browser-deduplicated activity counts to understand visits, name checks, claims, sharing-button use, card downloads and optional support-link clicks. We retain a UTC day, event type, broad source label (such as X) and browser-token hash; we do not store full referrer URLs, payment details or raw IP addresses in these activity records. Aggregate reports are administrator-only. Events older than 30 days are excluded from reports and removed gradually during visits. There is no external analytics integration. Necessary service providers may keep infrastructure security logs under their own policies.

Reports & contact

Open a name’s public page and choose “Report this name” to send a private moderation report. Avoid including sensitive personal information. The authenticated operator can review reports from the administration screen.

Operator contact: hello@noreason.studio. Use it for legal notices, trademark or impersonation concerns, and data requests (we can tell you what is stored for an owner ID you control, or hide a name you own). Claim records are kept while the service runs; activity counts are removed after 30 days as described above.
